Sgt Bryan Lythgoe is mounting a sponsored walk to raise money in aid of The King’s Royal Hussars Welfare Trust. Bryan lives in Fulwood, Preston, and served in the 14th/20th King’s Hussars and The King’s Royal Hussars from 1974 to 1993.
Over the past year the Regimental Welfare Fund has distributed in excess of £17,000 to over 35 former members of the Regiment, or family members, who were in need.

“My aim is to walk the 240 plus miles from Fulwood Barracks Preston, to Home HQ KRH Peninsular Barracks, Winchester. I aim to walk with NO rest days in between. After serving 22 years in the army and I am coming up to my 60th birthday, I felt now is the time to do my bit before I meet my maker and raise funds for the Regiment. I will be carrying a memento of Regimental history to present to the museum in Winchester. My initial aim is to raise £1992.00”
Bryan aims to finish his walk on Wednesday 25th May between midday and 1pm, and will coincide with the visit to HHQ of The Senior Colonel KRH, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who will arrive to open the refurbished HHQ at 1130hrs. Those who wish to support are welcome to gather at the Regimental tent in front of HHQ.

***** Final Day Report *****
Bryan’s last full day of walking (Tuesday) took him through the Newbury area and towards Winchester. He met up with Chris Sym along the route and managed to get some great pictures of the day on to his Facebook page. He was ‘up for it’ and speeding forward but Tony Wagstaff made sure that he slowed his pace, otherwise he would have finished 2 days before HRH Prince Michaels visit ! Tuesday night was spent in Barton Stacey at The Swan Inn, where Bryan and Tony met up with a few supporters, Ady Harris (who lives in the village), Chris Sym, Mathew Gimlette, and Godfrey and Debs Tilney.
Bryan set off again on Wednesday morning for a short and leisurely final leg, aiming to arrive at Peninsular Barracks at 1:00pm. A welcoming party had gathered, consisting of the Commanding Officer, RSM and party from the serving Regiment, and also a cross section of Trustees, Museum Volunteers and Association members. Thank you to you all.
Exactly on time, Bryan entered Peninsular Barracks. He was met by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who warmly congratulated him on his fantastic achievement and asked if he was about to return home in the same manner!!

***** Day Three and Four Report *****
Good morning all,
A few lines to let you know how Bryan Lythgoe is fairing on his Hawk on a Walk.
Saturday
Saturday was a difficult day for Bryan. He was navigating around and through Birmingham and found that the concentration needed to avoid the heavy traffic whilst trying to follow the route guide was extremely difficult, and he was not helped by the very wet weather. So he was very pleased to be joined by Carl Smith who accompanied Bryan through Birmingham and was able to keep his moral up at a difficult time.
On Saturday night he had a moral boosting treat with accommodation in a B&B on his route paid for by Mick Blakey, and he was able to attend to his blistered foot (thank you Mick).
Sunday
On Sunday, feeling refreshed and with a good breakfast, Bryan set off once again. During the day he met up with his support team (SQMS Tony Wagstaff) and crossed some lovely countryside heading towards the Cotswolds and passing through Stow-on-the Wold. He said that it was a pleasure after the heavy traffic of the Birmingham area. Sunday evening was spent in the grounds of The Merry Mouth Inn, on the A424 north of Burford. He was fed and watered, compliments of Bill Prince and Mo Rudd the owners (thank you Bill and Mo).
Monday
Bryan’s route today takes him through Wantage. He is tired, both physically and mentally, and has some blisters, but the legs are raring to go and he is in good spirits. He is looking forward to watching the FA Cup final that he has recorded and has avoided hearing the final score.
Bryan has raised £2628 so far.

Bryan Lythgoe’s Hawk on a Walk report from last night – at the end of Day Two.
"Cant get on facebook. Here goes. After a 0730 start this morning from Northwich I met up with my very good friend Terry Murphy who escorted me for about 3 and half hours. Covering a good 17 mile. My pace slowed right down as the blister on the ball of my foot was very painful (can here you all saying what a shame. Tha A34 road through to Stafford was a soul destroyer and only my self discipline kept me going. Stopped on route at mcdonalds Chesteryon where I was given free coffee vouchers by the lovely mangeresd Gemma who said she would like to know more about sponsoring h 4 heroes. Gave her KRH website and she was fascinated. My start time tomorrow depends on a couple of things but I hope to be starting from Bednall head (south of Stafford) 8 ish. Richad Udy would like to a bit so if it goes on facebook sure he will join me. I need a phone that tells me how to work it as all this seems to is flatten my battery"
